Welcome Superintendent Dr. Antonio Layton Jr.!
Dr. Antonio Layton Jr. has been an educator for over 30 years serving students, staff, parents, board and community from small to large districts at elementary, middle school, high school and district administration levels. He has served as a campus and district administrator for the last 13 years. Dr. Layton’s educational journey first started in 1989 as a tutor, then substitute teacher, educational aide, teacher, instructional technology specialist, testing facilitator, assistant principal, associate principal for teaching and learning, principal, executive director for human resources, and now proud superintendent of Taos Municipal Schools. The educational roles throughout his career, including life experiences, have helped shape, guide, and mold his leadership. Dr. Layton holds a bachelors and master’s in mathematics from the University of Texas Pan American and a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Texas A & M University – Kingsville.
Dr. Layton’s and his wife Ruby have been married for 30 years. They have three adult daughters, Aubrey, a student at Texas State University in San Marcos, Amber who works at Bert Ogden Arena, and Autumn, who lives in the Fort Worth area with her husband and their three children (James, Jackson, and Ruby Marie). Dr. Layton enjoys spending his past time fishing, barbecuing, and watching football.
“There is an old African proverb that states, ‘If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together.’ I believe that by working alongside each other, Taos Municipal Schools will go farther in providing our students with the best opportunity for the highest academic achievement so that our families will have choices for a best possible future.” - Dr. Layton.

I want to give an incredibly well deserved kudos and shout out to our very own Dominic Martinez, who physically utilized his CPR skills last night and saved a life!!
Dominic has been certified in CPR many times throughout his career, but came to share with me his experience and the fact that his most recent CPR course with us in district was a wonderful refresher and allowed him to quickly respond and take action last night.
Couldn’t be more proud, this is a large part of my “WHY.” It is such an essential skillset and, it brings my heart so much happiness when people can utilize that knowledge and apply it to real life emergency situations.
Strong work again Dom, you are an asset in all regards to our students and staff whom you watch over daily, and a complete blessing to the man that was able to wake up and see today because of your actions 😊❤
