Dr. Layton

Dr. Antonio Layton Jr. has been an educator for over 30 years serving students, staff, parents, board and community from small to large districts at elementary, middle school, high school and district administration levels. He has served as a campus and district administrator for the last 13 years. Dr. Layton’s educational journey first started in 1989 as a tutor, then substitute teacher, educational aide, teacher, instructional technology specialist, testing facilitator, assistant principal, associate principal for teaching and learning, principal, executive director for human resources, and now proud superintendent of Taos Municipal Schools. The educational roles throughout his career, including life experiences, have helped shape, guide, and mold his leadership. Dr. Layton holds a bachelors and master’s in mathematics from the University of Texas Pan American and a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Texas A & M University – Kingsville.

Dr. Layton’s and his wife Ruby have been married for 30 years. They have three adult daughters, Aubrey, a student at Texas State University in San Marcos, Amber who works at Bert Ogden Arena, and Autumn, who lives in the Fort Worth area with her husband and their three children (James, Jackson, and Ruby Marie). Dr. Layton enjoys spending his past time fishing, barbecuing, and watching football.
