Dear TMSD Community,

We want to inform you about today’s incident:

• At approximately 12:03 PM today, a report was made regarding the sound of gunfire

in the area surrounding Taos High School.

• Taos Sheriff's Department and Taos Police Department were immediately notified,

dispatched and investigated the report.

• Following district safety protocols, THS went under a lockdown.

• After initial assessment, THS transitioned into Shelter-in-place.

• Shelter-in-place was lifted allowing THS to resume regular schedule.

• Notification updates to TMSD Community were provided via social media, website,

and email.

As a proactive measure in response to surrounding districts dealing with similar incidents,

TMSD had earlier partnered with both Taos County Sheriff's Department and Taos Police

Department to provide extra presence today at all our campuses. The extra presence was in place

should TMSD have received similar reports. As such, our collaboration with Taos County

Sheriff’s Department Taos Police Department and their extra presence allowed for an immediate

response to today’s report at Taos High School.

Taos Municipal Schools continue to remain vigilant as the safety and security for all students and

staff members remain our top priorities. We appreciate your trust and cooperation as we work to

continue maintaining a safe learning environment.
