TMSD Family and Community,
At approximately 2:00 p.m. today, a teacher at Taos Middle School noticed that, what appeared to be a piece of a weapon, fell out of a student’s pocket. The teacher immediately confiscated the item and secured it before turning the student and the item over to campus administration.
A search of the student was conducted and additional pieces were found and secured. Town PD and District Security were immediately notified and arrived on campus within minutes. After reviewing the items, law enforcement determined that the separate objects were pieces of a non-functioning handgun replica.
The student will be addressed according to the Taos Municipal Schools Student Code of Conduct and Board Policy, and the Town PD will review the matter under applicable local and state law.
Students and staff at Taos Middle School were safe at all times during this incident. We appreciate the quick actions of staff and the support of local law enforcement.

How Does the GO Bond Impact Me?
Current $5.928 mill levy would go to $7.090 mill levy.
For a 1 mill levy increase on a $200,000 property value, taxes will be applied against 1/3 of the property value creating a taxable value of $66,666.33 for a $200,000 property.
The average resident would see their property taxes increase by roughly $5.58 per month.
