Welcome

Dear Arroyos del Norte Elementary Community,

I am honored and excited to serve as your principal at Arroyos del Norte Elementary for the 2026–2027 school year. As a literacy coach and Federal Programs Director, I have had the privilege of working alongside the incredible students, families, and staff who make this school such a vibrant and caring community. I look forward to deepening those relationships and partnering with you to ensure every child thrives.

A Little About Me

I grew up in a small town in Georgia before attending Tulane University in New Orleans, where I earned my bachelor's degree. I later completed a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.

In 2004, I moved to Taos, New Mexico, where I taught first, second, and third grades at both Ranchos Elementary School and Enos Garcia Elementary School. During that time, I earned a second master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Mathematics and Science from New Mexico State University and became a National Board Certified Teacher in Literacy: Reading-Language Arts.

Throughout my career, I have continually sought opportunities to learn, grow, and strengthen my practice so that I can better serve students, support teachers, and partner with families. I believe that every child deserves a safe, joyful learning environment where they are known, challenged, and encouraged to reach their full potential.

My Priorities as Principal

  • Creating a safe and welcoming school where every child feels valued.

  • Maintaining an active presence throughout the campus and in classrooms.

  • Getting to know each student as an individual so we can support their academic, social, and emotional growth.

  • Building strong partnerships with families, staff, and our community to ensure student success.

I believe that the best schools are built on trust, communication, and collaboration. I welcome the opportunity to meet with you, hear your thoughts, answer your questions, and learn more about your hopes for your child and our school.

Thank you for welcoming me into this role. I am excited for the year ahead and look forward to working together to make the 2026–2027 school year a wonderful experience for every Arroyos del Norte student.

With appreciation,

Melissa Eager
