New Students

More information will be added throughout the summer as the new school year nears.

MANDATORY FRESHMEN ORIENTATION will be held on Wednesday, August 6th from 8:00-10:30 a.m.  At this time, we urge all freshmen to attend to get any questions they may have about attending Taos High School answered.  Students will be oriented about the dress code, back-to-school registration, class schedules will be passed out, and students may pay for activity/class dues at this time.  The cost is $15 total.  Check or money orders are preferred.

NEW STUDENTS:  Beginning Monday, July 9, 2008

All new students to Taos High School must contact the registrar, Ms. Sara Trujillo.  Her contact phone number is 751-8013.  We require a parent or guardian accompany the student when enrolling in Taos High School.  While some of this information is what we would like to see, you must see the registrar in order to determine what she may use to substitute for the appropriate information.  Each student is unique.

FORMS
You MUST contact Ms. Sara Trujillo to get the necessary registration forms. To avoid confusion, they are not available on-line.

Power of Attorney - Only a parent with legal custody or a person who serves as a formal guardian where the child lives 7 days a week may enroll a student in Taos Municipal Schools. The notarized document of Power of Attorney stating guardianship for educational and medical purposes must be the original. Taos High School will make copies for its files.

Note:  If you do not have power of attorney, a change of custody order from a court of law is required.  Otherwise, the parent and/or legal guardian of the student is the only person(s) empowered to make legal decisions for the student.

DOCUMENTATION
Please note that certain situations may require additional documentation or information verification.  These are by no means the only documents we may accept, but the registrar must make the determination if any other documents are acceptable.

Denial of Enrollment or of Re-enrollment:

Notwithstanding any other provision of this policy, enrollment or re-enrollment of a student to any district school may be denied by the principal of such school on the following grounds:

a. The student seeking enrollment or re-enrollment has been expelled from another school district in New Mexico or in another state during the preceding twelve month period; or

b. The student’s behavior in a school district in New Mexico or in another state during the preceding twelvemonth period makes the student’s enrollment or re-enrollment detrimental to the welfare or safety of other students or school personnel.

REMINDERS:

Students are reminded that Taos High School does have a dress code.  Please look at your child before they walk out the door.  We are collecting t-shirts and sweat pants for students who cannot follow the dress code to wear at school.  If you would like to contribute a t-shirt(s) or old sweats, please drop them off at the main lobby office.

Students who need to change their schedule must sign up for an appointment during the first week of school.  Go to the classes you have been assigned until your schedule is changed.  Under no circumstances, should a student be waiting in the counseling office to change a schedule unless that student is not enrolled in school and must be enrolled with a parent at the school site.  If you miss your appointment with the counselor because you were not in the class you were supposed to be in, and therefore could not be found, you must reschedule.  All students who do not have a class report to the small gym.
