All girls
will have the opportunity to attend open gym on MONDAYS THRU FRIDAYS starting
April 15th at Taos Extreme Gymnastics to stretch, prepare your
cheer/dance, tumble, etc. (these are not required practices)

will be posted for both teams on Saturday afternoon
outside
Taos High School Lobby.

mandatory parent meeting will be held Monday, May 18th in the big gym

Taos High
School Varsity, Junior Varsity, Freshman Cheer
Teams
Tryouts for all teams will be
held on May 14th through May 16th at Taos High School
Gymnasium. Depending on the number of girls trying out will determine the
number of teams we can have. We would like to have three full teams, and offer
many positions. On Saturday, May 16th from 8:00 to 3:00 the
actual tryout will take place. All participants should be present for role call
promptly at 3:00 each day. Tryouts will be closed to the public. Girls trying
out may be picked up by 5:30 each day. Results will be posted on Saturday
afternoon outside the school. We will be holding open gym Mondays thru
Fridays from 3 to 6 beginning April 15th, at the Taos Extreme Gym for
all interested girls that want to prepare for the try-out. These open-gym dates
ARE NOT MANDATORY BUT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Coaches will be on site to
assist ALL participants.
Try-Out Requirements:
Participants will be judged
on the following individual and group requirements.
Clinic dates, please wear
appropriate practice wear (no spaghetti tops or short shorts). FOR TRYOUTS wear
only orange, black, and/or white (uniforms allowed) with black shorts ONLY.
Captain Positions:
A two-page write will be required to be considered for Seniors to try-out for
Captain, Co-Captain positions. The write-up should include your interest in
becoming Captain, your history with the team, your academic background, your
goals for the year should you become Captain, and the qualities and
characteristics that make you an ideal candidate for the position.
Clinic Material:
You will learn 2 Sidelines and the Taos High School Song. All material learned
at the camp will be judged in groups of two to three participants. (50pts)
Kicks: Front, Side (left and right) (30pts)
Jumps: Toe touch, Herkie, Pike, Double Toe Touch, & Jump of
Choice (50pts)
Splits:
Both sides and Center pointed toes and hands off the ground (20pts)
Tumbling:
Front Roll/Back Roll, Cart Wheel, Round-off, Back-handspring (one spot, to be
considered for Varsity Team), Back Tuck (one spot) (50pts).
Flyers:
Those interested in trying out as flyers will need to exhibit at least three
skills of flexibility on the floor (heel stretch side/front, scale, scorpion
and/or bown-arrow)
Cheer/Dance:
Each participant is required to make-up a cheer of their own, which needs to
show his/her creativity and enthusiasm. Incorporation of three jumps (which can
be individual jumps or a series of two jumps) a gymnastics skill of choice, and
the splits are required. Your cheer should be no less than 30 seconds. In
addition you will incorporate a dance into the mix 30 second cheer/30second
dance similar to what we do at State. We are looking at creativity not ability
to mix music. (50pts)
Teacher Recommendations (40pts):
Each participant will choose two teachers that will be willing to make a
recommendation for the participant. Grade point average will be considered
separately, so the students academic standing will not be used as criteria for
this section.
Grade Point Average:
This will be a vital portion of your final score (50pts) additional points are
given for participants receiving 3.5 and above.
