The Dell computers purchased 5 years ago will run Windows XP, but it runs a little "doggy" as we techs say.  To speed things up, follow these steps.

Click on Start.  Go to My Computer and right click.  Go to Properties.  In the window you can see the processor type, speed and amount of RAM after a few seconds.  The Dells PIIIs should all have 768MB of RAM and the processor should indicate 1.4 GHtz.  Dell Celeron machines should have 512MB of RAM.  Please inform IT if this is not the case.

Click on the Advanced Tab at the top.  Under Performance, click the Settings button.

Click the circle next to "Adjust for best performance"

This will make the screen look like Windows 2000.  Everything will run as usual.  Things should run a little snappier.
