It is an honor and privilege to work with the outstanding faculty and the wonderful parents and students that make up the community of Taos Middle School. I hope that you have had a pleasant summer and enjoyed the summer vacation. This year, classes begin for students on Monday, August 13, 2008.

The Taos Middle School program is designed to support all students as they transition from the elementary school into the secondary education program. Middle grades students are unique, and we pride ourselves in offering them a program that offers them the instruction, time and support to be successful academically. The middle grades are an opportunity for students to grow intellectually, physically and socially, and to develop a sense of academic and personal commitment to their education.
 

Our instructional program emphasizes a balanced, standards-based approach to learning. The Taos Middle School staff is dedicated to creating an environment where students and parents feel a personal connection that fosters success as a learning community. We value the role that everyone plays in making sure that our students are successful. The after-school programs offer time for extra help in tutoring and homework, and enrichment opportunities in various clubs planned to explore the interests of our students. We urge parents and students to get involved!

I hope you will take part in your child’s education by inquiring about their time spent at school. Ask about their friends and teachers. Get involved as they complete their homework or seek your help on special projects. Encourage your child to read at least 20 minutes every night, and quiz them on their content lessons. I am confident that your child will demonstrate greater motivation as you continue to show interest in their academic and social experiences. We will certainly work to provide your child with the best education possible. Let’s work together to make this an excellent school year in every way!
